The Mid-Missouri Ronald McDonald House is a temporary residence for families of children receiving
medial care at Columbia area hospitals. Since opening in June 1983, this house had been a home-away-from-home
for thousands of families. The treatment of serious childhood illnesses and injuries can be emotionally and
financially devastating for families. The necessity of traveling to a distant hospital for vital medical care
only compounds the difficulties they face. Since the first house opened in 1974, more than 206 Ronald McDonald
Houses in 19 countries have opened, each one dedicated to meeting the needs of families in these special
circumstances. Like the houses around the world, the Mid-Missouri house provides inexpensive lodging in a
warm and supportive atmosphere where families may privately share their concerns, questions, fears, and hopes
about their common experiences.
